Entitled cat owner lets cat vomit in bathroom, guilt trips roommate who asks them to clean it up: 'This person owes me $400'

When I was in my final year of college, I had a roommate who owned a cat. On the face of it, this was no big deal. I loved cats, and for the most part, this one was pretty agreeable. There was just one issue that there was (quite literally) no getting around—while everybody was sleeping at night, he had a habit of leaving a noxious pile of diarrhea right beside our front door.  

As you might imagine, it was not a pleasant experience waking up bright and early for a library study session and having to step over toxic waste before even getting the chance to enjoy a morning coffee. The one saving grace of the situation, if you could call it that, was that my roommate was committed to the unpleasant task of cleaning up the mess. We could argue that this may be the bare minimum, but hey! As anybody who has lived with roommates knows, some of them refuse to meet even the lowest bar.

  • There is no getting around the fact that if you have pets, they are probably going to make messes in the house every once in a while. The important thing is that as a pet owner, you take responsibility for that, whether you live alone or with others. 

    One unfortunate individual found themselves dealing with somebody who apparently didn't believe in this when they got into an altercation with their roommate about cleaning up their cat's vomit. The cat owner accused them of shirking responsibility after they politely requested that they clean the mess in their shared bathroom that had been there for several hours.

    eva @eeevuhhhh quick timeline since some people are confused: I got home at 11AM to find the vomit. I had to study for a big test so I assumed my roommate would clean it up when they woke up. My roommate saw it, but left at 6PM for work and at 10pm i realized it was still there and texted them

    Jamie @JayElHarris This is why I could never do roommates and even in college, it was unbearable to me, because if I see cat vomit, I'm cleaning it up. And I expect the same from any adult I live with. But if I live with someone who doesn't think like that, then I'm resentful as h■I.
